IBM Supercomputer May Become World's Fastest

"IBM's PowerPC is also the chip used in Apple's G5 computers. In a similar use of the PowerPC technology, Virginia Polytechnic built a low-cost supercomputer by tying together 1,100 G5s. Pending verification, this computer was ranked in the top five supercomputers. "
 The Blue Gene computers will run o­n the Linux operating system. Because of the vast amount of processors in the machines, the OS will be incorporated into o­nly a small portion of the computers' total.
